Introduction
If someone has your real email, they have some kind of access to you. They can see what reviews you’ve left on Google; what accounts are associated it; whom it’s connected to and more. They can look on various Data Leak websites and see what password it’s associated with, etc. This is why if you’re a spicy content creator or any type of content creator, you NEED an email alias.
The Dangers of Using a Real Email
Let’s say you use your real email address for everything, everything in your personal life and your online life. Your real email is on all of your social medias for people and brands to contact you; a stalker wants to find you. What do they do?
They go to your profile, get that email and pop it into something like Dehashed
They can get the passwords associated with it and sometimes they can even get
The name, email address, IP address and phone number as you can see from the picture above. Sometimes this stuff is accurate and sometimes it’s not. When I’ve used it, it always turned out to be pretty accurate.
Epios
Maybe it didn’t turn up in a data leak! That’s fine. There are still many other options, sites like Epios.
They can pop it into Epios.
Epios can show a number of things as you can see from the photo above, my favorite being “Google Maps”. Let’s say you left a review on something, those are public. That can easily be clicked on which will reveal reviews and the location of the place where you left the review
Of course, that’s another clue; it gets the wheels turning, “Do they live in this town, or did they visit?” A final piece to a puzzle or a good starting point.
Or the worse, it can sometimes lead right to a person’s address on websites like TruePeopleSearch.
These are only some of the things that someone can do with your real email address if they have access to it. So, imagine, if you’re a content creator and you’re using your personal email address for everything, it can be a goldmine for a stalker. So how does one mitigate this?
Mitigation
You guessed it! Get a fake email! Shocking I know! But why stop there? Get many fake emails! I use a fake, throwaway email for every account I create along with a fake name. If that fake email is ever caught in a data breach and put on data leak websites like Dehashed, it’s going to come back under the fake name along with other fake credentials.
Fake Email Along with a Fake Name
You get an email address that’s specifically used with your online persona along with a name that’s associated with your online persona. For example, your real name is John Doe but your online persona is:
AngelTeeter@gmail.com
Angel Teeter
So, if any of your followers or a stalker were to discover AngelTeeter@gmail.com or if it were to show up in a data breach, it will come back under Angel Teeter, NOT John Doe (your real name)
Absolutely NOTHING about Angel Teeter is connected to you, they have their own email address, address, phone number, etc. In future articles, I will show you how to give your online pseudonym all of these things. Remember, we want the stalker to find fake information if they were to find out your “email address” or your “name”
How I Make My Fake Emails
I personally use the Proton Unlimited plan from Proton Mail.
It lets me create not only 15 “main” emails, but let’s me automatically create throwaway emails when I’m making new accounts. These throwaway emails forward to your proton inbox and can easily be deleted. As you can see, whenever I’m making a new account, it automatically gives me the option to “Hide my email” which is the email I created for BioRat (My online persona).
I have 49 throwaway emails, and more will be added as I make new accounts on different sites, and when I’m making a new account, if I need to enter a name, I give a fake name. So, if ANY of these got leaked, it would not come back to me at all, not to mention I can easily just delete them. It wouldn’t even come back to my BioRat pseudonym because I treat every account like it’s its own little identity
If you like what you’re seeing from Proton Mail and want to use it, you can get it using the button below. Yes, that is an affiliate link. If you get it from here, it supports my sour candy habit, haha.
If you would like a full guide on creating the perfect pseudonym for your online persona, I have an Ebook here conveniently called “The Perfect Pseudonym”. Perfect for if you’re a content creator, spicy content creator or just someone wanting to increase their privacy
Conclusion
I’m hoping to make this a little series teaching you all how to create the perfect online pseudonym. As I’ve state in a previous article, it’s safer to be fake on the internet than real, especially if you’re a content creator. Next article in this series will hopefully be about getting a fake phone number for your pseudonym.
Check out my previous article here which is something you’ll want to look at if you have an X account
Well said, great article.
I would add to this the necessity of using a VPN. If you sign up for a website and they store your IP address, it can end up in leaked databases.
Once someone finds you on Dehashed or similar by your email, they can also search your IP if it was leaked anywhere, and can find other accounts you have that may be under other email addresses, or aliases.
Good advice. I created a pseudonym and Proton aliases back in November but sooooo much of my life and identity is entangled in the Google account I’ve had for 15 years or more. I haven’t found a short and simple way to erase all of it and transition over but I’m working on it.
